GUN RIGHTS

The 2nd Amendment: A well regulated militia, being necessary to secure a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Americans have the right to bear arms to protect themselves from any enemy, whether it be from a home intruder or an oppressive government. I cannot stop anyone from owning a firearm, no matter the type or the amount of weapons, and nobody has any right to limit access to firearms, as it is a violation of my constitutional right to bear arms. The phrase, “…shall not be infringed.” is very clear.

Gun Rights vs. Gun Control has been a very controversial issue in recent times. The two main sides to the debate are the NRA, March 4 Our Rights, and Turning Point USA, vs. March For Our Lives, and EveryTown for Gun Safety. Also known as, conservatives vs. liberals. There are many issues surrounding the debate, and nobody seems to have a clear answer. Both sides tend to agree that there should be checks for felonies or any terrorist watch lists before purchasing a firearm, but that is where the agreements cease to exist.

Supporters of Gun Rights tend to believe that the 2nd Amendment is their permit to own a firearm. They can purchase a firearm whenever and wherever they want. Guns should not have to be registered into a database so the government can track gun owners and one day be able to go door to door and take away guns if they become oppressive. There should be limited background checks on people wanting to buy a gun. It should stop at criminal databases and checking for people on terrorist watch lists. Wait times to buy guns are ineffective and purposeless. They either delay people being able to defend themselves or delay someone from harming others with a gun. It only delays the inevitable so wait times serve no valuable purpose. No guns should be banned or have limited access. The Federal “Assault” Weapons Ban of 1994 was unconstitutional. The term, “assault” is a human behavior. There is no such thing as an “assault weapon”. Weapons cannot simply assault anyone or anything without a human interacting with the inanimate object. Also, the ban included many weapons and halted production of guns that had a magazine with more than ten rounds. How will this one day protect us from an oppressive government? If the government turned on the people, they will come at us with large-capacity rifles and machine guns, not pistols. We The People need access to the same weapons that military and police are so we can properly defend ourselves from tyranny. Guns are not the problem, people are.

Gun Control Activists believe the opposite. However, they split in different areas. Some believe that the second amendment is outdated and only applies to old muskets from the 1700s when the Constitution was written. But the argument is quickly debunked because they do not continue to follow their logic with other amendments such as the 1st, and the Constitution is the supreme law of the land that will stand the test of time. Not only that but the founding fathers put the amendment in place to stop against tyranny, something that cannot be done in modern times with muskets. Others that support Gun Control think that access to guns should be limited. Whether it be by stricter background checks, wait times, laws banning certain weapons, or limiting the amount of guns one can own. They believe in, “common sense” gun control laws that include things like bans on special upgrades you can make for guns, ban on “assault weapons”, wait times, and others.

They do not realize that there are so many laws that SHOULD prevent tragedies such as school shootings which so many Gun Control Activists bring to light in recent years. There are already laws against murder in all forms, laws against guns on campus, knives on campus, and objects that can be used as a weapon are banned on campus. Most states have laws about not being able to shoot a firearm within a certain distance of a school or dwelling. There are wait times in some states but at the very least there are background checks that work most of the time. However if someone has not committed a crime yet they will not be in the database. There are so many laws in place to prevent crimes being committed with a gun, but they still happen. The reason we have criminals still committing armed robbery or murder or any crime with a weapon is that they break the law. Hear that, they BREAK THE LAW. Laws do not stop criminals, obviously. When someone commits a crime, from assault with a deadly weapon to a mass shooting, they are charged with murder and various crimes. Nobody goes off the hook for what they do. Laws would not stop criminals from somehow obtaining a weapon and using it for harm and destruction. Having stricter laws would harm law-abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves from a criminal or a tyrannical government. When a populous is disarmed, it creates the opportunity for criminals to roam free knowing they will not be killed and the opportunity for the government to take control and pass laws that are unconstitutional.

Quotes relating to the Second Amendment:

“The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become a legalized version of the first.”~Thomas Jefferson

“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take everything you have.”~Thomas Jefferson
“When government takes away the citizens’ right to bear arms it becomes the citizens’ duty to take away government’s right to govern.”~George Washington

Take it from the Founding Fathers, guns are essential to a free society and nothing can take that away. I refuse to surrender my right to bear arms, and I will stand and fight along with my fellow Americans that want to maintain our free Republic. Any politician that tries to take away my freedom will be taken out of power by the people. As an American, it is my responsibility to protect my freedom and my country from ALL enemies, foreign and most definitely domestic. We are coming dangerously close to having our freedoms taken away, and some already have been taken. Once we give up our freedoms, we will never get them back without serious action.

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”~Benjamin Franklin
The Founding Fathers that built this nation would be disgusted at some of the corrupt politicians today and even more disgusted that We The People have not done anything about it. Politicians no longer represent the people. They represent themselves and will protect themselves to make money and to stay in power. And if taking our guns away will keep them in power, then don’t think for ONE SECOND that they won’t try to do it in a sneaky way to fool the voters.

Bottom line, do not let anybody try to take away our right to bear arms. Once we give away a freedom, we will never get it back. It is very easy for the government to abuse their power, and they have already abused it to a severe extent. Be careful people, and check who you are voting for before you bubble in the ballot.
